Synopsis

As a young intern at an art gallery in Paris, Isabelle McAvoy meets Putnam Armstrong, wealthy, gentle, older and secluded from the world. Her time at his Normandy château is the stuff of dreams, for when she learns she is pregnant, she knows that marriage is out of the question.

Returning to New York, Isabelle enters a new relationship that she hopes will be more stable but before long she realizes she has made a terrible mistake and once again finds herself a single mother.

With two young daughters Isabelle unexpectedly finds happiness and a love that gives her a third child, a baby as happy as her beloved father. And yet, life brings more change . . .

Her three girls grow up to be very different women and Isabelle’s relationship with each of them is unique. When one final turn of fate brings a past secret to light, it bonds mother and daughters closer, turning a challenge into a blessing.

Review

You know that feeling when you need a good easy read that you know you will enjoy, well that was me last week.  My choice of book to feed this need was Blessing in Disguise  by Danielle Steel.  Danielle Steel is an author I come back to again and again as I know the writing, character and plot will be engaging and entertaining. Blessing in Disguise is the story of Isabelle McAvoy and her three very different daughters.  Isabelle grew up surrounded by wonderful pieces of art as her father was a curator at the Vanderbilt estate, so it was no surprise that she went into the art world as a consultant for a gallery then progressing on to her own business.  This brings three very different men into her life, who give her three daughters.  Life is not always easy but sometimes these bad times can bring about a change and be a blessing in disguise.

Danielle Steel always has a strong female lead in her books, and Blessing in Disguise is no different.  Isabelle McAvoy lives a comfortable life but seems doomed in love; for different reasons she ends up bringing up her three daughters on her own.  Putnam Armstrong is a reclusive millionaire living in France, and is probably the love of her life. Collin Stone is an art dealer selling to the rich and famous and all about making money fast, unfortunately he is not all he appears to be. Finally Declan Donahue, a lawyer who seems perfect for Isabelle, finally someone she can trust and share her life with until fate steps in.  All three bring something different to Isabelle’s life and ultimately make her stronger and more resilient.

I love Danielle Steel’s writing, it flows easily and there is always a depth to her characters that make them familiar.  She also sets her books in some wonderful locations and in this book we go to Paris, New York, Tuscany and India and is able to feed the senses in her descriptions of these very different places and take us on the journey with her characters.

Danielle Steel is a masterful storyteller and has sold nearly a billion books, and I have no doubt that this book will be another bestseller. Blessing in Disguise has an intelligent and tenacious female lead character who is also very relatable.  There are breathtaking locations and a story that twists and turns as life and fate change Isabelle’s life.  This is a story of falling in love, motherhood, family and overcoming obstacles that life puts in the way.  Perfect for the holidays, this is a first class read from one of the most popular and successful authors around.

Thank you for taking the time to read my review and I hope you will share it on social media.  I also ned to thank Pan Macmillan for my copy of the book in return for an honest review.
