Review
It was in December when I was re-introduced to Danielle Steel’s books, when Pan Macmillan kindly sent me Fairytale to review. My love for her books was reignited so I was over the moon to be able to review her latest offering Fall From Grace. The familiarity of Danielle’s Steel’s writing is like finding a comfy pair of shoes that you forgot about. She has a style of writing and a formula that works well; she is a natural storyteller.
The plot centres around Sydney Wells whose life has been changed in an instant after the death of her husband. Rather than the horrible step-mother from fairytales, Sydney has two terrible step-daughters who evict her from the family home with just her clothes and the money she has in a personal bank account. I really enjoyed reading about Sydney’s rise from the ashes after several knock downs and her return to the world of fashion design. Her two step-daughters, Kyra and Kellie are not the nicest of characters it has to be said; spoilt, lazy and entitled. They a ruthless and relentless in pursuing Sydney’s eviction from her marital home, checking to make sure she takes nothing from the house with her. Completely the opposite are Sydney’s daughter’s Sophie and Sabrina who both work very hard as fashion designers for all that they have. I loved Ed Chin’s character, a young designer that has worked hard gaining experience and living n his own merits even though his family are one of the wealthiest in Hong Kong. His loyalty to Sydney and his deference to her as a designer were what stood out for me.
There are plenty of twists and turns in Fall From Grace and a plot that pull at your heart strings. The writing, characters and seamless plot make this book a pleasure to read. Another brilliant book from Danielle Steel that I am sure will be another bestseller, along with her other one hundred and sixty five other books.
