February Abridged (Monthly Round Up)

I can’t believe another month has passed, time really does fly.  February is shorter month, but I have read eleven books but blogged nine; the other two will be reviewed next week.  Here are my top three reads of the month.

81bXZDvD8oLAn Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen.  This is the second book from the authors of last years bestseller The Wife Between Us. Jess decides to take part in an anonymous morality study, but as the study progresses and she works more closely with Dr Shields the more her life begins to change and she becomes a pawn in a very dangerous game.  I loved this book, it’s full of twists and turns, and as the characters spin a web of deceit you never know who to fully trust.

61EfQ1ao-MLThe Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides.  Theo leaves his job at Broadmoor Hospital to take a position at the The Grove as a psychotherapist, so he can have the chance to work with Alicia Berenson who has been convicted of murdering  her husband.  Alicia hasn’t spoken since the night of the murder and Theo believes he is the one who can make her talk.  Theo’s obsession with Alicia and her husband’s murder sees him takes risks and potentially put himself and Alicia in danger.  This fascinating look into the human psyche had me gripped until the shocking conclusion

The Familiars by Stacey Halls.  Back to my favourite genre of historical fiction, this book 91Jpvj1BigLis set against the backdrop of the Pendle Witch Trials of 1612.  Seventeen year old Fleetwood Shuttleworth has been married for four years and in that time suffered three miscarriages.  In desperation she befriends Alice Gray, a young midwife, who she believes can get her through the pregnancy. As their lives entwine, both become reliable on each other to survive in a period of suspicion and fear towards wise women and midwives.  I found this  to be an interesting and riveting read, two strong women trying to live their lives at a time when men ruled.  Stacey Halls captures the atmosphere of fear and mistrust of the time and the mistrust of the ‘other’; a powerful debut novel.

March is going to be another busy month for me and I hope you will join me in celebrating the book love.
