I can hardly believe we are half way through the year, and in book terms it has a been fantastic.  In June I have read nine books, a mix of crime, thrillers, historical fiction, literary fiction and women’s fiction.  They say variety is the spice of life, and in books I completely agree with this.  My top three books of this month are:

A17Kk1RcHkLThe Posison Bed by E C Freemantle.  The cover of this book is absolutely stunning, it reminds me of a Holbien’s The Ambassadors.  Inside it as sumptuous as the cover, set in the court of James I of England it tells the true story of Frances Howard and Robert Carr.  This book has it all; political intrigue, murder, conspiracy, love, witchcraft and secrets. This is a beautifully written sumptuous read, a must for fans of historical fiction.

51NdruHb4qLThe Mistake by K L Slater.  This is chilling psychological thriller that really gripped me. Rose narrates the plot in the present, and in the past sixteen years previously when her younger brother, Billy, was murdered.  They have always believed the killer was behind bars, but when looking after elderly neighbour she makes a shocking discovery that makes her question all that happened sixteen years ago.  This is very much a character driven thriller, Rose in the present is still suffering the effects of her brother’s murder, and in the past we see her relationship develop Gareth, who grooms and controls her.  This is an edge of the seat, stomach twisting thriller that you won’t be able to put down.

Her Mother’s Secret by Rosanna Ley.  I am a huge fan of Rosanna Ley’s novels and this 71BjN7bttSLdid not disappoint.  She always chooses such wonderful locations and this book is set on the French Island of Belle-Île-en-Mer in southern Brittany and follows Colette as she returns to the island after sixteen years to care for her dying mother.  Whilst there she has to face the past and try to sort out her relationship with her mother whom she blames for her father going out to sea in a storm and not returning home.  A real feast for the senses, Rosanna Ley captures the sights, smells and tastes of the Island, this book and its characters will captivate you; a brilliant book.

Well, thats my top three, and below I have included the covers of all the other books I have read this month so you can see if you have missed any of my reviews. Remember you can subscribe to my blog or follow me on social media to keep up to date with my reviews.

I’m really looking forward to July as several of my favourite authors have books being released including Lucinda Riley, Karen Swan, Santa Montefiore, Jill Mansell and Rebecca Chance.
