Synopsis

When Emma opened her gorgeous little chocolate shop in the harbour village of Warkton-by-the-Sea, she realised a lifelong dream. Love is also blossoming with her hunky beau, Max, who’s slowly healing her fragile heart.

Summer is here and life has never felt so sweet. Until the rainclouds start to gather…

A rival sweet shop and killjoy landlord give Emma a headache, and when a face from the past turns up unannounced, Emma finds herself spiralling down memory lane. With Max’s crazy work schedule driving him to distraction, Emma’s in danger of making some choices she might regret . . .

With close friends, spaniel Alfie, and the whole village behind her, can Emma get the chocolate shop and her love life back on track?

Review

The Cosy Seaside Chocolate Shop is an easy read that will make you smile throughout. Emma has been running her Chocolate Shop and cafe for several years after coming to Warkton-on-Sea after the death of her fiancé. She has made some wonderful friends, and built a successful business and even started a new relationship with the gorgeous Max.  Her stability is threatened by her slimy landlord who has plans that he won’t tell her, a new sweet shop opening on the sea front and the appearance of dead fiancé’s younger brother.

This book is about friendship and how life can change in an instant.  The characters in this book are wonderful, there is a real community spirit in the village that pulls together when one of their community needs them.  Emma is loveable heroine, she has been through some tough times but has worked hard to start again and build her own business, The Chocolate Shop;  be prepared for eating a lot more chocolate than usual as the creationist the book really make your mouth water and recipes are included at the back.  Emma has also decided to open her heart to love again with Max but with a temporary long distance relationship and the appearance of her ex fiancé’s brother, Nate, cracks start to appear.  I admire Emma’s strength and tenacity, always trying to stay positive even in the face of adversity.

I loved the setting of the North East in this book as it is where I live and know all the locations.  Caroline Robert’s certainly did justice to our wonderful coastline, our beautiful castles and sublime landscapes, and our fishing and costal communities.  There is a lot of action packed into the four hundred pages, from Emma’s shop and personal problems to her assistant Holly’s imminent leaving for university to Mrs Clark and her fall; it certainly grabs your attention and keeps it throughout.

The Cosy Seaside Chocolate Shop  is a wonderfully heartwarming and charming read, with a beautiful setting and engaging characters.  There is a previous book, but it can be read as a stand alone which is how I read it.  There is no doubt that this book will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy, and wanting more chocolate; a scrumptious read.
